The Northeast Indiana Jewish Genealogical Society (NEIJGS) and the Allen County Public Library Genealogy Center has launched a new AI Special Interest Group (AI SIG) and will hold its first meeting via Zoom on Wednesday, Oct. 21. From the announcement:

The group’s first virtual meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. The program, “Your Family History Starts Here with AI,” will offer an informal introduction to the group and to the possibilities — and limitations — of artificial intelligence for genealogists.

You do not need technical experience to participate. Perhaps you are wondering how AI might help with a brick-wall problem. Maybe you want to make sense of a handwritten document, organize notes, or find better ways to tell your family’s story. Or perhaps you simply want to understand what all the excitement is about. The AI SIG is designed for beginners and experienced users alike.

Participants will have opportunities to share ideas, compare experiences, and bring real research challenges to the discussion. The goal is not to present AI as a replacement for careful genealogical work, but to explore how it can support researchers while keeping accuracy, privacy, and good source evaluation in view.

No prior AI experience is required. SIG is virtual and will continue on a monthly basis on the third Wednesday of the month.

Register for the meeting here.
