As the genealogical research work for phase 1 of the Hillsborough County Zion Cemetery project comes to an end soon, the USF researchers behind the African American Burial Ground and Remembering Project want to turn their attention to the 3 cemeteries located under or near Tropicana Field: Oaklawn, Evergreen, and Moffett.
I would like to create a group of volunteers to help with this new work, and as presidents of Pinellas County-based genealogy societies, your help in finding volunteers would be much appreciated.
Would you forward this request to your membership and perhaps announce it at your next meeting? Individuals interested can contact me (Drew Smith) at dsmith@usf.edu and I’ll also be glad to answer any questions your members might have before committing.
